Easter cupcakes

Happy Easter! :)

I wanted to make some cupcakes so because it was Easter coming up, I thought I'd theme them around that.
They're vanilla and chocolate sponge marble cupcakes, with a chocolate buttercream icing with Mini Eggs! I took a couple into work and the girls seemed to like them so they went down well :)

Have you made any tasty treats for Easter? x

P.s. I have just got back from my holiday, but am still at my parents house so not really online. My Models Own Fruit Pastel Collection giveaway will be ending tomorrow, so make sure you've entered!

What's in my bag?

I bought a new handbag a little while ago so I thought I'd do a 'What's in my bag?' post seeing as I haven't done one before. The answer to the title question is... not very much of interest really. I am notorious for lugging around tonnes of crap in my bag, usually consisting of receipts, wrappers, drink bottles, random bits of paper, a collection of tangled headphone wires and more. You get the gist.

So getting a new handbag was the perfect opportunity to have a clear out and start fresh. My shiny new handbag is from Topshop and it also comes with a detachable long shoulder strap, which I do use more than the small handle but it wouldn't fit in the photo very well! Now onto what I have reduced all the crap down to:
1. My phone - exciting I know, but I have a nice new case too :) this has taken over from the massive Hello Kitty case I had, maybe I'm growing up? Nah.
2.Neutrogena hand cream - this stuff is really good, you only need a tiny amount and it's perfect to keep in your handbag.
3. My keys - complete with cute little bird keyrings which have hidden mirrors inside their bellies!
4. Tissues - my boyfriend bought a bulk pack of these hungry caterpillar tissues from somewhere, so we've got loads!
5. Lip products - I always have a lip balm and usually some kind of colour too. It's currently Topshop's 'Whimsical' and the Palmer's Cocobutter lip balm.
6. Hair bobble - essential! There's always one in my bag or on my wrist for the crazy windy/rainy days.

So those are my not so exciting handbag essentials, now I have cut all the crap out. What are your handbag essentials? x

P.s. This is a scheduled post, I'm currently on holiday - back on the 30th :) x

Jeans, top, socks - all Topshop.
Shoes - Vans

This is a shameful outfit consisting of head to toe Topshop (apart from the Vans), but oh well! I was long due a new pair of grey/black jeans, since my last faithful pair ripped, so I popped into Topshop and picked up a pair of their Leigh jeans.

I haven't owned a pair of Leigh jeans before, I have previously had Topshop jeans but I'm not sure what they were called. These jeans are so comfy and soft, more like jegging material than jeans! They're not quite high waisted, but they do sit quite high above your hips which I personally prefer. They would look cute with a jumper tucked lightly into the waistband.

Due to the material, I'm not sure if these are going to last as long as a pair of denim jeans would, but I think I'll definitely be back to buy more once I'm fed up of these ones!

Have you got any Leigh jeans? What type of jeans are your favourite? x

P.s. This is a scheduled post while I'm on holiday - I'm back on the 30th! :)

Illamasqua Blusher - Katie

My go to blusher has always been my MAC mineralize blusher in Dainty, however as I'm running really low on that I thought I'd branch out and try another brand! I've had my eye on Illamasqua products for a while now, what with the cute speckled egg-like nail polishes they've just realised, so thought this was an ideal time to test them out.

Not only did I want to try a new brand, but I wanted to try a new shade too. My usual blusher choice is a deep pink, like NARS Amour (post here), so this pastel pink is quite a difference for me. I love the Illamasqua packaging, filled with quotes about being whoever you want to be etc etc. The blusher itself is very pigmented, you only need to dab your brush to get a lot of product. It's very easy to build, I tend to start with a very light layer of the blusher and build it up slowly to get the desired colour, while still blending properly. This might sound odd but it also smells lovely! Kind of like sweets, dolly mixture or something like that.

Overall I love this blusher. I'm glad I took the plunge and tried a new brand and a new shade! Have you tried any Illamasqua products? What's your go-to blusher shade? x

P.S. I'm going away on holiday on Saturday! Yay :) I'm off on a snowboarding holiday in Tignes, France. I will have some posts scheduled up for while I'm away and my giveaway will also be running until I get back too, so you shouldn't miss me too much! :)

Keep in touch

My twitter has been going mad with the news of Google Reader being removed on the 1st of July, leading to fears that Google Friend Connect will also soon be removed. This has not been confirmed, but it seems like that's the way Google are heading. I personally feel (and probably others do too) that Google is trying to push all bloggers to share their links and follow other blogs through Google+. I can't say that I'm too happy about this as I'm not a massive fan of Google+!

Bloglovin' have jumped in quickly and added a banner to the top of their page allowing bloggers to quickly and easily import all the blogs they follow onto Bloglovin. I've literally just done mine and it was so easy, just click and follow the instructions, then all your favourite blogs are saved in one place :) I would recommend doing this, just in case Google make some drastic changes (which I'm sure won't happen, they do stuff slowly), better to be safe than sorry!

If you'd like to follow my blog through Bloglovin' you can do here. Also don't forget I'm running a little giveaway, if you haven't entered yet then you can do here.

Please leave your Bloglovin' links in a comment so I can check them out :) x

GHD Total Volume Foam

I've been testing out the GHD Total Volume Foam for a while and thought it was about time it appeared on my blog. The usual types of hair styling products I tend to use are  hairspray, heat protection spray, serum etc, so a volume foam was a new one to me!

GHD recommend using 2 to 4 pumps of this foam to damp hair before blow drying. I opted to use around two pumps for my hair, which turned out to be plenty. I was worried about this foam making my hair crispy, sticky or heavy, I don't know why but I always imagine foam products will do this, but it didn't at all. It's a very light product that's easy to apply.

In terms of adding volume, I didn't notice a massive difference. I do feel like this product would work well when properly blow drying hair (rather than just blasting it like I do), or using it with heated rollers or something like that. It also contains GHDs heat protect system which is always a bonus!

Have you tried any of the GHD styling products? What did you think? x

Mother's Day Cross Stitch

I recently made these coasters for my Mom for Mother's Day, they went down really well and I'm glad I made that extra effort to make something for her! I've wanted to try cross stitch for a while, so when a friend saw these designs in a magazine I thought they'd be the perfect starter projects.

They're probably not very technically correct if an experienced cross stitcher looked at them, but I'm really pleased with how they turned out :). The magazine suggested adding a wadding and a material back to turn the designs into coasters, but I thought that was a bit weird because surely you're just going to get tea rings all over them! Instead I bought some DIY photo coasters from ebay (like this) and added the cross stitch and a plain piece of paper at the back to cover the stitches. Hopefully this will make them last a lot longer and my mom will get more use out of them!

I love making things, so hopefully now I've been a bit more crafty recently, I'll keep it up and carry on! Have you ever tried cross stitch before? Have you made anything recently? x

P.s. I also have a giveaway on at the moment for the new Models Own Fruit Pastel Collection! You can earn extra chances of winning every day by tweeting too :)

It's everywhere...

Monochrome is everywhere at the moment, but I'm not complaining about that. You only have to look back at my past outfit posts to find that I'm not the most adventurous with colour. I like wearing black, grey and the occasional bit of burgundy, so this trend suits me just fine!

I love this stripy skater skirt I think it would look really cute with a white blouse, plain tee or a light jumper. I love the leggings too but I'm not sure how much I'd actually wear them, they're nice to look at though! The shorts are also cool, they're denim so nice and easy to wear!

I am so sleepy today! Is it Friday yet? I'm looking forward to the weekend, I'll be going home to see my mom and spend mother's day with her. How are you and what are you doing at the weekend? x

Lattice Crop

Crop top: it's so old I can't remember where it's from, label is no help either // Skirt, Boots, Socks: all Topshop // Belt: Primark

Apologies for the serious mucky boots, they're my current favourites and have seen a lot of wear recently! Club floors are not good for the state of my shoes.

I wore this outfit out for a few drinks with friends, then went onto a club in town. I love this crop top, it's the perfect length to wear with high waisted skater skirts. The lattice edge ensures that you don't flash too much flesh while still being on trend. I bought this top around two years ago, it was back when I worked in a club and had to wear all black. I used to wear it with high waisted shorts I think, so when I found it at the bottom of my drawer the other day I was very pleased! I've bought a couple more crop tops recently, one is a graphic/graffiti type monochrome print and the other is a long sleeved burgundy polo neck. So hopefully you like this type of outfit, as it seems like there might be a few more on the way!

Have you bought into the crop top trend? How have you been wearing yours? x

A couple of weekends ago, Josh, some of our friends and I went down to Ilfracombe in Devon for a little break. There was 8 of us in total and we rented a log cabin on a holiday park. It was such a fun, cheap weekend away and the cabin was lovely! (It had the best bubble bath ever, with proper bubble jets).

We spent the weekend down by the harbour - looking at the boats and crabbing (we didn't catch anything), we also played mini golf, drank lots of tea and cake in cute little tea shops and saw some amazing sunsets. (I think the bottom left picture looks like a desert, but it's actually the sunset over the Devon fields!).

We were really lucky with the weather while we were away, it was a bit chilly down by the sea because of the wind, but we had a dry sunny weekend which was amazing!

I love getting away and seeing different towns for the weekend, next town on my list is Brighton! I've never been and I've heard great things so that's my next adventure :)
Where's your favourite UK destination for a short break? x
