Cakey-mess
I made some cupcakes... which started out pretty successfully until I got to the icing. I attempted to make pink buttercream icing, so mixed clover (light), icing sugar and red food colouring. I'm not sure whether I just didn't use enough icing sugar, or whether it was because I used clover light, or whether it was the food colouring - but that is some weird looking, sloppy, orange icing haha. Doesn't taste as bad as it looks though! Does anyone have any fool-proof icing tips?
In other news, my boyfriend Josh has started getting back into blogging. He started one a while ago but didn't get into it too much. But he's got loads of exciting stuff to post about at the moment, so you should check it out! His posts are mostly based around music, festivals and events he runs/goes to. If you want to read something a little bit different then have a look - Don't let the days go by. x
I think it'll be the fact that you used Clover. Clover is basically margarine and doesn't have the same hold as you would get if you used regular butter (sorry, I'm a bit of a baking geek!) The cakes look really yummy though :D

Yeah you really can't use anything apart from butter in butter icing.
ReplyDeleteFor my butter icing (which I use to pipe onto cupcakes) I use 150g butter and 250g icing sugar :)
Love your pink cupcake tray!

I think stork makes the best icing! But so long as they taste good it doesn't matter! Xo
ReplyDeleteCakey mess is the best type of mess! I'd still eat them x
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy still ahah :0

My first cupcakes looked (and tasted) horrible thanks to the weird icing recipe. If you find a good one, please tell me. :D

You could always buy the pre-made buttercream icing :) xx
ReplyDeleteThey look good but I guess it was because of the stork. Love the sprinkles though!
ReplyDeleteMm, cake mess! Buttercream does require real butter though, the oil in marg makes it go all sloppy; not one for the waistline!
ReplyDeleteThese look really yummy :)
ReplyDeletegreat blog as always.

Those cakes look scrumptious! You should check out the oreo chocolate brownies that I made on my blog!! Yeah I think it probably was the clover, if you use stork it has a much better consistency too it, but no worries you learn through experimenting right :D
